Five real questions on supplier vetting, GST verification and reliability, answered on this date and archived here once the next day's set went live.
A large national brand typically offers broader retail presence, standardised product lines and more corporate infrastructure, while a smaller regional manufacturer often offers more flexible customisation, more direct factory access, and more attentive handling of a mid-sized order that might be a low priority for a much larger supplier. Neither is automatically better — match the choice to whether your project needs standardisation at scale or close, flexible collaboration.
India's GST portal (services.gst.gov.in) has a free public "Search Taxpayer" tool where entering a supplier's GSTIN returns their registered legal name, registration date, status and principal place of business. Cross-check this against the name and address the supplier has given you directly, rather than relying on a GSTIN printed on an invoice or marketplace listing alone.
It's worth being careful, not worried — similarly-named but entirely unrelated businesses are common in Indian furniture manufacturing hubs, and buyers can genuinely land on the wrong company's listing, reviews or contact details by mistake. Confirm the exact registered company name, GSTIN and factory address match what you were quoted before paying an advance.
For a straightforward, well-specified request, a reasonable manufacturer should respond within 24-72 hours with at least an acknowledgement and a timeline for the full quotation, even if final pricing takes longer to prepare. A consistently slow or vague response at the enquiry stage is often a preview of how responsive the supplier will be once you're a paying customer with a problem to resolve.
Longevity is a reasonable positive signal — a business doesn't usually survive decades without a functioning product and repeat customers — but it isn't a guarantee on its own. Verify current capability directly: ask for recent project references, a factory visit, and current material specifications, rather than treating years in business as a substitute for checking today's actual quality.
