Should you use storage racks or filing cabinets for an office archive room?
Open, adjustable storage racks suit bulk, boxed archival storage — records kept for retention or compliance reasons but rarely pulled — at a meaningfully lower cost per unit of storage volume than filing cabinets. A filing cabinet suits actively-referenced documents needing individual drawer-by-drawer access; racks suit archive boxes, lever-arch files and bound registers that don't need that level of organisation.
Shelf spacing adjusts to match standard archive box heights without re-welding, and the 150-500kg per-shelf load rating comfortably handles densely packed paper archive boxes — a load standard light-duty office shelving isn't rated for. Cantilever racks use arms extending from a single upright with no front obstruction, purpose-built for long items like pipes, timber and steel bars that don't sit well on shelving. Mezzanine floor systems add an entire raised level above existing storage, multiplying usable floor area without expanding the building.

Cantilever racks aren't part of the standard range on this page — they're a genuinely different structural system (single-sided arms rather than shelving) purpose-built for long stock that doesn't fit slotted-angle shelving. Longer arms reduce load capacity, so arm length should be specified to match the actual item length, not assumed. If a cantilever requirement comes up, it's worth discussing directly, since it's a different design problem from adjustable shelving rather than a variant of it.
