Steel Locker Size and Price Guide India — 1, 2, 4 and 6-Door Lockers

Before you order steel lockers for a school, hotel, factory or office, two questions decide everything else: what size each compartment needs to be, and what a locker costs. This guide gives the standard steel locker sizes used in India in mm and feet, how many doors fit a wall, indicative price ranges, and what pushes the price up or down.

Standard Steel Locker Sizes — Quick Answer

Most steel lockers in India are about 1800 mm (6 feet) tall and 450 mm (1.5 feet) deep, with each column about 300–380 mm (1 to 1.25 feet) wide. The number of doors comes from how that height is split into tiers.

Locker typeDoors per columnEach compartment (H × W × D, approx.)Best for
1-door (single tier, full height)11800 × 300 × 450 mm (6 × 1 × 1.5 ft)Uniforms on hangers, staff changing rooms, factories
2-door (double tier)2900 × 300 × 450 mm (3 × 1 × 1.5 ft)Hotel and hospital staff, offices
3-door (three tier)3600 × 300 × 450 mm (2 × 1 × 1.5 ft)Schools, colleges, gyms
4-door (four tier)4450 × 300 × 450 mm (1.5 × 1 × 1.5 ft)Bags, books and personal items only

Locker banks join several columns side by side. A 6-door locker is usually 3 columns of 2 tiers, and a 12-door locker is 3 columns of 4 tiers — about 900–1140 mm wide in total. Wider columns (380 mm) suit staff who hang a full uniform; 300 mm columns fit more lockers on a wall.

What Changes the Price of a Steel Locker

How to Choose the Right Locker Size

  1. Start with what goes inside. Hanging uniforms need a full-height single-tier locker; shoes and a bag fit a 2-tier; books and a bag fit a 3 or 4-tier.
  2. Count the users per shift, not total staff. In hotels and factories, people on different shifts can sometimes share, but most sites give each person their own locker — see how many lockers you need.
  3. Measure the wall. Each 300 mm column holds 1 to 4 doors, so a 3-metre wall takes about 10 columns — 10 lockers in single tier, or 40 in four tier.
  4. Leave walking space. Allow at least 1.2 m in front of lockers in a busy changing room so doors can open while people pass.
  5. Fix them down. Full-height lockers should be bolted to the wall or floor, especially when the top tiers are loaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard size of a steel locker in India?

Most steel lockers are about 1800 mm (6 feet) tall and 450 mm (1.5 feet) deep, with each column 300–380 mm wide. A single-door locker is one full-height compartment; 2, 3 and 4-tier lockers split that height into 900, 600 and 450 mm compartments.

What is the size of a 4-door steel locker?

A 4-door (four-tier) locker column is usually about 1800 × 300 × 450 mm, with each compartment roughly 450 mm high, 300 mm wide and 450 mm deep — enough for a bag and books, not a hanging uniform.

How much does a steel locker cost in India?

Indicatively, a single-door full-height steel locker costs about ₹4,500–₹7,500, a 6-door two-tier bank about ₹8,000–₹14,000 and a 12-door four-tier bank about ₹12,000–₹20,000, before GST. Steel thickness, lock type, fittings and quantity change the price.

What size is a 6-door steel locker?

A 6-door locker is usually 3 columns of 2 tiers: about 1800 mm high, 900–1140 mm wide and 450 mm deep, with each compartment about 900 mm high.

Which locker is best for staff uniforms?

A single-tier full-height locker or a 2-tier locker with a hanging rod, ideally with 380 mm wide columns, so a uniform can hang without folding.

Can steel lockers be made to a custom size?

Yes. The Royal Safe Company makes steel lockers to your room size and tier layout in its own factory in Sonipat, Haryana, with no minimum order for orders within India.
